Domestic Violence & Stalking

What is domestic violence?

Battering is a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat of use of violence.  Battering happens when one person believes they are entitled to control another.  Assault, battering, and other violent actions associated with domestic violence are crimes.

Domestic abuse battery is the intentional use of force or violence committed by one household member upon the person of another household member without the consent of the victim.

What is stalking?

Stalking is the intentional and repeated following or harassing of another person that would cause a reasonable person to feel alarmed or to suffer emotional distress.  Stalking shall include but not be limited to the intentional and repeated uninvited presence of the perpetrator at another person's home, workplace, school, or any place which would cause a reasonable person to be alarmed, or to suffer emotional distress as a result of verbal or behaviorally implied threats of death, bodily injury, sexual assault, kidnapping, or any other statutory criminal act to himself or any member of his family or any person with whom he is acquainted.

The District Attorney's Domestic Violence and Stalking Unit

Each year, hundreds of people are victims of domestic violence and stalking in Caddo Parish.  The primary goal of the First Judicial District Attorney's Domestic Violence and Stalking Unit is the aggressive investigation  and prosecution of cases involving stalking and domestic violence issues.  The investigator of this unit also provides training and support to law enforcement and community agencies.

Office hours are 8:30 am - 4:45 pm, Monday - Friday.  Please call ahead to schedule an appointment.
