A DeSoto Parish man admitted Thursday, March 23, 2017, that he broke into the home of his estranged wife and beat her with a baseball bat.

Ronald Ray Chism, 48, of Mansfield, pleaded guilty before Caddo District Judge Katherine Dorroh to home invasion and received an agreed-upon sentence of 12 years at hard labor.

Chism had previously moved out of the house he shared with wife and moved in with his parents in Mansfield. On September 17, 2016, he burst into his wife’s home and struck her in the face with a baseball bat. She suffered broken facial bones and continues to have vision problems to this day.

This domestic violence crime was prosecuted by the Special Victim’s Unit of the Caddo District Attorney’s Office. It focuses on the most serious offenses, which in this case allowed assistant district attorneys, investigators and victim’s assistance coordinators to build the prosecution in six months from the date of the crime.

The prosecutor was Assistant District Attorney Jessica Cassidy, while the defense was mounted by Peters Flowers.
