A local man accused of attempting to sell drugs while carrying a concealed weapon illegally was convicted in Caddo District Court Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Lawrence Lee, 39, was found guilty by the jury in District Judge Erin Leigh Waddell Garrett’s courtroom, returning after under 30 minutes of deliberation. Lee was charged with possession of a controlled Schedule I dangerous substance, marijuana, with intent to distribute and possession of a concealed firearm by a convicted felon.

Lee faces a prison sentence of from five to 30 years and a fine of up to $50,000 on the drug charge and 10 to 20 years in prison and a fine of from $1,000 to $5,000 on the weapons charge when he returns to face Judge Garrett for sentencing. Lee’s next court appearance was set for January 29, 2019.

The charges resulted from a traffic stop by Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Task Force agents in the 1500 block of Garden Street in Shreveport’s Allendale neighborhood July 14, 2017. Lee was found in possession of marijuana, a digital scale and packaging material, and a search of his vehicle’s trunk revealed an AK-47.

Lee was defended by Richard M. Fisher. Prosecutors were Assistant District Attorneys Ross Owen and Erica Jefferson.
