A Shreveport man previously convicted of a sex crime against a juvenile was found guilty in Caddo District Court Thursday, November 21, 2019, of failing to register as a sex offender.
Ronald Keith Berry, 50, was found guilty as charged by the nine-woman, three-man jury after 20 minutes’ deliberation. The trial began Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in District Judge Charles Tutt’s courtroom.
At trial, three Shreveport Police officers testified. Evidence presented showed that Berry had pleaded guilty to molestation of a juvenile in 1995 in Caddo Parish, that he still resided in Shreveport in 2017, that he used a Facebook page under a false name as well as an email address, and that he failed to notify authorities of this when he made his annual registration with the police department.
When Berry returns to face Judge Tutt December 19, 2019, he faces a sentence of two to 10 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
Prosecutors were Assistant District Attorneys William Gaskins and Mallory Richard. Berry was defended by Mary Harried and Michael Enright.
