A Greenwood man who sexually assaulted a prepubescent girl numerous times into her teen years was convicted of rape Wednesday, April 9, 2025, by a Caddo Parish jury.
It took the five-man, seven-woman jury in District Judge Chris Victory’s court less than hour to unanimously convict Donovan Phillips, 46, guilty as charged of first-degree rapes that started when the victim was 7 and continued until age 12. The attacks ended in May 2020, and the victim reported them to her mother that September.
The girl reported that Phillips first touched her over her clothes, saying he was “teaching her” male and female body parts. Soon the touching moved under clothes, later progressing to fondling, oral sex and intercourse. Once the victim started to menstruate, Phillips used condoms, which she was able to describe as SKYN brand in a backpack in Phillips’ bedroom. This was located by the detective when executing a warrant of Phillips’ residence. Additionally, Phillips threatened to harm the victim and her family if she did not participate.
When Phillips returns to Judge Victory’s court for sentencing April 30, 2025, he faces a mandatory term of life in prison at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
Phillips was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Victoria Washington and Courtney n. Ray. He was defended by Michael Enright and Silver Sanders.
The case was docket No. 378924.
