Meet Caddo DA summer intern Thomas George Hathaway. Thomas is the grandson of longtime Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway and the son of Attorney Don Hathaway, Jr. and wife Camille. He is a senior to be at LSU and a graduate of Caddo Magnet High School. He is a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Thomas plans on following his father’s footsteps into law. This summer, he has worked in the prosecution section of Judge Charles Tutt and says he has enjoyed “learning the ins and outs of court and the day to day processes of law.” The Hathaway family name and tradition of excellence and community service, appears to be in good future hands.

Meet Caddo Parish DA intern Cami Chopin. Cami is a recent graduate of Centenary College, majoring in psychology. She came to our office via an email in June 2018 from her asking to intern during her senior year at Centenary. After a few months of internship, a grant was obtained in our Special Victim Unit for domestic violence and sexual assault violence and Cami was able to be hired under the grant. Cami, an alum of Captain Shreve High School, desires to be a police detective after continuing her studies at the University of South Carolina to obtain a Masters in Criminology. She works under Special Victim Unit Section Chiefs Ron Stamps and Britney Green, and has learned from them “the importance to enjoy and have passion for what you do for a living”, and notes they have taught her “how to use energy to be competitive and to win.”

Introducing to you, summer intern Jasmine Cooper. Jasmine is an upcoming third and final year Law student at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge. She is an alumnus of Byrd High School and the daughter of James and Mia Brooks Cooper. She came to our office at the recommendation of Shreveport City Court Judge Sheva Sims, who has known Jasmine from Jasmine’s childhood where Jasmine was in the children’s choir at Evergreen Baptist Church where Judge Sims , an accomplished pianist and organist, was the music director. Jasmine previously clerked for Judge Sims through the Mayor’s Summer Intern Program. Jasmine has worked this summer with the busy prosecution team before Judge Ramona Emanuel , seeing first hand several high profile cases and trials. She thanks Judge Emanuel for her advice, and thanks Assistant DA’s Ed Blewer, Victoria Washington, and Josh Williams for their mentorship this summer. We have enjoyed intern Skylar Dean this summer. Skylar is a sophomore to be at Louisiana Tech and graduate of Byrd High School, where she was the Winter Court Queen. She came to our office at the recommendation of our friend Lincoln Parish District Attorney John Belton, for whom Skylar interned last school year while at Tech through a work study program. Skylar earned a full TOPPS scholarship and is the first person in her family to attend college. On weekends, this hard working young lady works at Wal Mart in Shreveport, even during the school year. At Tech, she is a member of the Pre law Society and is the Vice President of the National Society of Leadership and Success. This summer she has worked with the prosecution team before Judge John Mosely and says she is pleasantly surprised at how a man so nice and humble could be a judge. After her summer experience here at our office, Skylar now wants to be a prosecutor. Thank you DA John Belton for the recommendation and we will both look for bright things from this future prosecutor.

Smith , from Frierson, is a freshman to be at LSU, planning to major in political science and to become a prosecutor for the Caddo Parish DA. He is a Caddo Magnet High School alum. Hunt, a Booker T. Washington High School alum, is a senior to be at Wiley College in Marshall, TX. He is a business administration major with plans to be a realtor and insurance agent. Swedburg is a sophomore to be at Louisiana Tech and a graduate of Captain Shreve High School. He is a civil engineering major. Intern Skylar Dean’s School Supply Drive was a grand success. DA applauds Skylar for her ingenuity and boldness in starting what will be an annual event of his office. Skylar is a student at Louisiana Tech and graduate of Byrd High School, who interns at the Lincoln Parish District Attorney’s office during the school year and works at Wal Mart in Shreveport every weekend. The Child Support Division won 1st Place, with 616 supplies donated! Section 2, the prosecutorial section before Judge John Mosely, won 2nd Place, with 395 supplies donated! In total, the employees of the D.A.’s Office donated 2,371 supplies, bringing her total number of supplies collected to 4,411. In addition, we collected over $150 in Jeans Day money that will be used to purchase additional supplies! DA Stewart thanks Skylar and all who supported this project.
