The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office, in partnership with Shreve Memorial Library, will hold the 5th Annual Purple Box Project to provide essential resources and comfort to survivors of domestic violence.

Community members are encouraged to gather a box — either a purple box, one decorated in purple paper, or any box or bin they have on hand — and fill it hygiene products, deodorant, toothpaste, combs, soap, socks, underwear, diapers, and baby wipes — all of which help meet the immediate needs of domestic violence survivors and their families.

Once filled, these boxes can be delivered or a pickup can be arranged by contacting the DA's office. Donated items will go directly to survivors through partner organizations including Providence House, Project Celebration and the Caddo Family Justice Center.

"During Domestic Violence Month it's very important to remember that many of the survivors lack the necessities they need to start over,” said District Attorney James E. Stewart Sr.

"Shreve Memorial Library is proud to partner with the Caddo District Attorney’s office, again this year, for their Domestic Violence Awareness Month Purple Box Campaign," said Deonci Sutton, Shreve Library's Associate Director for Public Services. "We believe that awareness and action build safer communities. As a trusted public space, we are opening our doors as drop-off locations for the items that are most needed to help those who are experiencing abuse.

Purple bins are located in the foyer area and items can be dropped off at our Atkins, Broadmoor, Hamilton/South Caddo, and North Shreveport locations now through November 10th. By working together, we hope to help shine a light on this vital issue.”

The Purple Box Project will end November 10.

Any individual, organization or business can participate in the Purple Box Project by creating a purple box filled with toiletry items. Once completed, participants may contact Regina Guerin at (318) 226-6200 ext. 3135 to coordinate drop off or pickup, or to obtain more information.
