As we enter a New Year, the state of our young people, the future of our community, remain foremost on my mind. In the latter half of 2025, I noticed a troubling trend of an increase of females populating the 24-bed Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center. In prior decades, zero to one females occupied the jail at any given time.

Caddo Grand Jury returns no-true-bill in fight death
The death of a man following a fight in downtown Shreveport in January has been resolved with the Caddo Parish Grand Jury declining to indict in its returns December 18, 2025. Discovery in the case revealed there was insufficient evidence to try the man arrested in connection with the death and that self-defense could not be discounted.
