Batiste to serve life plus 55 years for crimes
A man who killed one person and wounded another outside a downtown Shreveport nightclub with an illegal weapon in 2023 must serve life in prison, with another 55 years tacked on for good measure, a Shreveport judge ruled Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Caddo Grand Jury true bills fire victims' grandmother
Rita Ann Spearman Montgomery, 51, faces the murder charges in connection with the deaths of two juveniles as a result of a fire at a residence in the 3100 block of Milton Street in the Queensborough neighborhood on October 13, 2025.

Cornelious to serve 60 years as habitual offender
Jamaria Cornelious, 30, was convicted February 24, 2026, of one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. This was in connection with an October 8, 2024 incident at the Sonic Restaurant in the 7100 block of Mansfield Road. Shreveport police responded to reports of a suspicious person.

Patrick Williams II found guilty of gun charge
The 10-woman, two-man jury in District Judge Donald Hathaway Jr.'s court deliberated 41 minutes before returning its unanimous guilty-as-charged verdict against Patrick Williams II, 40.

Mark White found guilty of murder
Mark D. White, 20, was found guilty-as-charged of shooting and killing 19-year-old DeAnthony Johnson February 7, 2023, by the seven-woman, five-man jury in District Judge Ramona Emanuel's court. The trial began May 11, 2026.

Calvin Lewis guilty of multiple sex crimes
A Keithville man was found guilty Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Caddo District Court of aggravated rape and indecent behavior with juveniles.

U.S. Postal Service troubles affect court notices
The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office has identified a mailing issue that affected notices of court appearance dated between March 30, 2026, and May 8, 2026. Office records show that while the notices were deposited in a timely manner with the United States Postal Service, some envelopes bear delayed postmarks, causing late delivery. The District Attorney is taking remedial action to ensure that defendants’ due process rights are protected for any failure to appear

Carlisia Clark guilty of manslaughter
District Judge John D. Mosely Jr. found defendant Carlisia Manshan Clark, 28, guilty of manslaughter in connection with the August 2023 shooting death of Xamien Davis, 39. Clark and the victim had dated off and on for several years.

Steven Davis convicted of 2023 minibike slaying
It took seven female and five male jurors in District Judge John D. Mosely Jr.'s court less than 50 minutes to convict Steven Darnell Davis, 49, of the August 4, 2023 slaying of Bre'Anna Hall, 20. Jurors also found Davis guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Batiste guilty of murder, attempted murder
It took less than two hours for five male and seven female jurors in District Judge Chris Victory's court to pass judgement on Brandon Lawyne Batiste, 32, who on July 15, 2023, shot and killed John Ruffin Jr., 41, near the Phoenix Nightclub in the 100 block of Travis Street. His intended victim that evening was Bryson Turner. Batiste had a 2014 conviction for aggravated assault with a firearm and thus was prohibited from possessing a handgun at the time of Phoenix shootings.

A Mississippi man who shot and killed a California truck driver here in 2024 after a dispute over social media postings was sentenced to life imprisonment Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in Caddo District Court.

Frederick McKinley guilty of gun crime
Frederick Dewayne McKinley, 32, was found guilty of attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon by a 10-man, two-woman jury in District Judge Ramona Emanuel's court after two hours of deliberation. The jury considered evidence that included videorecorded statements by the accused and testimony from three witnesses.

Monolo Baker found guilty of firearms charges
The two-man, four-woman jury in District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr.'s court deliberated just over a half hour before returning its guilty verdicts against Monolo Anton Baker, 47.
