Yesterday’s mass shooting that resulted in the deaths of eight children remains an active investigation. Information developed thus far indicates this was a domestic violence-related event involving significant mental health factors, including reported PTSD.

The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office joins our community in mourning the unimaginable loss of eight children in Shreveport. There are no words sufficient to capture the depth of this tragedy. Eight young lives, full of promise, innocence, and possibility, are gone. Our hearts are with every person impacted by this devastating event.

People who have been victims of crime will have an opportunity to learn what resources are available to help heal and adapt to the acts that have jolted their lives, as Caddo Parish joins the nation in marking National Crime Victims Rights Week, being held this year April 19–25, 2026.

Frederick Dewayne McKinley, 32, was found guilty of attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon by a 10-man, two-woman jury in District Judge Ramona Emanuel's court after two hours of deliberation. The jury considered evidence that included videorecorded statements by the accused and testimony from three witnesses.
