Robert Mathews sentenced for sex crime

A Keithville man convicted last month of sexually assaulting a teenaged family member was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday, October 1, 2025 by District Judge Chris Victory.


Robert Mathews, 58, was found guilty of sexual battery September 11 in a bench trial in Caddo District Court.


The victim reported that he touched her inappropriately and escalated to further physical contact from December 2022 through May 2023.


The prison term is to be served at hard labor, without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. Mathews also must register as a sex offender for 15 years upon his release.


He was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Courtney N. Ray and Victoria T. Washington. He was defended by Alan Golden.
