Zechariah Stutts guilty of attempted robbery

A Shreveport man pleaded guilty Friday, November 7, 2025, in Caddo District Court, of trying but failing, to rob a man two years ago.
After his 12-person jury was selected and sworn, Zechariah Carl Stutts, 21, changed his not guilty plea to guilty-as-charged of attempted armed robbery before District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr. Stutts will return to Judge Hathaway's court December 9 for sentencing, where he will face a maximum term of 49.5 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
On February 9, 2023, the victim encountered Stutts after leaving a local Family Dollar store. While the victim was en route to his car, Stutts’ brandished and pointed a firearm at him, demanding the keys to the vehicle. The victim attempted to run towards the Family Dollar for safety, but Stutts’ opened fire, striking him once in the backside. Stutts continued to fire shots before leaving the scene. He was apprehended moments later by police.
Assistant District Attorneys Ashlin Thomas and Chase Burgess prosecuted the case. Stutts was represented by the Caddo Parish Public Defender's office.
