A Keithville man accused of sexually assaulting a teenaged family member was found guilty of sexual battery Thursday, September 11, 2025, in a bench trial in Caddo District Court. The victim reported that Robert Wayne Mathews, 58, started touching her inappropriately and escalated to further physical contact from December 2022 through May 2023.

A Shreveport man about to be tried on simple burglary and felonious possession of a firearm charges pleaded guilty just after his nine-woman, three-man jury had been sworn in and the state's first witness was testifying in Caddo District Court Thursday, September 11, 2025.

A Shreveport man who shot and killed a former domestic partner and her mother and tried to kill the woman's father in early 2024 was found guilty of these crimes Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Caddo District Court.

The Caddo Parish District Attorney's office wishes to clarify for the record the Domestic Violence history of a man arrested by Shreveport Police in connection with an alleged domestic abuse homicide this past weekend.

A Shreveport man who shot his victim during the course of a robbery pleaded guilty in Caddo District Court late last month and was sentenced to serve 15 year in prison. Deontae Horton, 22, pleaded guilty August 27, 2025, before District Judge Ramona Emanuel to the charge of attempted second-degree murder with regard to the shooting that occurred October 9, 2023, in the 1700 block of Alma Street. During the robbery Horton fired a shot that struck the victim in his back. 

Gregory Underwood, 30, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated assault with a firearm and to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. For the latter charge he was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. For the assault charge he must serve the maximum term of 10 years concurrently.

Kelvin Higgins, 29, was to have gone to trial that day before District Judge Ramona Emanuel. Before proceedings began, however, he pleaded guilty as charged to aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated criminal property damage.

The just-released Louisiana Supreme Court Annual Report for 2024 shows that Caddo Parish had an impressive number of criminal trials conducted in 2024. 

An Oil City man who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography but disputed the 90-year prison sentence he received has lost his appeal before the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal, Caddo Parish District Attorney James E. Stewart Sr. says.

The Louisiana Supreme Court’s 2024 report on Louisiana courts was recently released.  Of note, Caddo Parish, the state’s sixth most populous parish at 221,290, had 6,962 adult criminal non-traffic court filings and 60 jury trials in 2024.  By comparison, the fifth-highest populated parish is Lafayette Parish at 253,822, and the seventh-highest populated parish is Calcasieu Parish at 206,707.  In 2024, Lafayette Parish conducted nine jury trials and Calcasieu Parish conducted
